The golf course

Golf course in the play ground where the golf game is played. Golf course is a vast grass covered area. Before beginning to play golf it is very important to know basic terms about the golf course. Golf course is not plain and smooth like other play grounds. It is well designed and each course will have different levels of difficulty.

The basic parts of golf course are: holes, tee box, fairway, hazards and the green.

Tee box

The tee box is the place where every player starts their first shot. This is usually marked with stakes for identification. Tee is a rectangular or square shaped surface. Tee-shot is termed as the first played from this area. It can also be called as teeing. Teeing is done by placing the ball in the tee and hitting the ball with the club. Often there will be separate tee boxes for men and women. A player has to reserve time before teeing. A tee time is the time allocated for the player to make the first shot.

Fairway

After the player tees off, he needs to continue his hit towards the green. Fairway is the area between the tee box and the green. It contains closely mowed grass and patches in between. But, it will be evenly plowed. So, this is a good area to hit the ball. Making the ball to drop in the green area from the tee box is not an easy part. Most of the players places the ball to the fairway and then follows to the green. So, hitting the ball to the fairway from the tee box is also a significant task in this game.

Green

Green is the part of the course which surrounds the hole. This area is extremely smooth and free from patches. It has very closely groomed grass (either Bermuda grass or bend grass) and the player can putt the balls here. The ball will roll over this ground without any obstacles. This part is well maintained and excess water will be removed using water hogs.

Holes

Holes are the ultimate goals in golf. Every player plays to make the ball hit to the hole with as minimum strikes as possible. Hole is around 10 cm deep and 10.8 cm of diameter. Hole lies in the middle for green. The location of the hole will be marked by a flag so that it should be visible to the player when he makes his first strike.

Hazards

Hazards are the part of the course which sets the difficulty level of the course. This makes golf more challenging. These are obstacles which the player should avoid while hitting the ball. Hazards include water bunkers, sand traps, etc. If the ball goes to a sand trap then the player can use iron club to rescue. But, other hazards will be difficult that there is no other way than taking a new ball.

Golf course will also have separate paths for driving carts and pathways. Golf course has also environmental impact. The greenery and the trees present in the course make it pleasant and help in reducing the pollution.
