Golf originated from a game played on the coast of Scotland during the 15th century. This game is usually played on a vast area covered with grass commonly known as golf course. A set of clubs, balls, tees and a bag would be sufficient enough to play this game. A brief summary on how to play golf is provided below.
Position
Positioning one’s body is a significant part in playing this game. Better positioning provides better power and better accuracy for striking the ball. The player usually stands near the ball with knees bent slightly and feet a little bit apart. The player and the club should always be positioned parallel to the target line where the tee and the ball are placed.
Based on the distance to be hit, one should position themselves. If the ball is to be hit long away, then legs should be a little bit wide and body should be a bit away from the ball. For short distance hits it is advisable to be close to the ball and place the legs nearby so that one can get high accuracy.
Holding the club
Both hands should be in synchronous to have a good strike.
- Left hand should be placed in the club in such a way that shaft lies across the top of the forefinger.
- Right hand should be kept in such a way that it should be over the left thumb. Thumb of the right hand the right shoulder should be in a line.
Swing
Swing action should vary for each strike based on the hole’s distance from the ball. Once the club is hold firmly and the player positions along the ball, the distance from the hole should be judged. If the distance is too far, then both hands should be raised backwards along with holding the club to as maximum height as it can be raised and then accelerate to a full speed smoothly.
The ball should be hit as hard it can be. The swing action should be in circular fashion. If the hole is very near, then full swing is not required. The club can be placed loosely in the hand and it should be as straight as possible. After this positioning, just a stroke with less power should take your ball near to the hole.
Aim
Concentration also plays a key role in this game. First, the player should be aware of the golf course. The position of the water hazards and the bounds should be well known. More concentration would be required when the ball is near to the par. Making the ball to roll into the par has lots of concentration and practice. The line, position and the angle of swing are the areas which the player should look more cautiously.
