Where is the source of alcohol come from? Is it added to the wine? We are not talking about whisky or beer. We discussing about chemical spirit. Through fermentation grape juice gets alcohol content.

Fermentation is the process of interface with yeast, with a single celled living organism, along with sugar in the grape juice. The main byproducts of this reaction is alcohol and carbon dioxide. The yeast dies off due to the alcohol it is created. This reaction continues until the alcohol content reaches to high peak. When the yeast sinks in the bottom it is removed. Why grape juice along with combination of yeast become wine. Before you consume the wine it should be filtered and stored.

If man would have not been aware of the yeast and what it could do, we would have been drinking grape juice instead of  wine!

You can find yeast naturally. When it is found naturally, it is known as wild yeast. Fermentation is initiated when this wild yeast which sticks to the skin of the grapes is mixed with the grape juice. Thus, there is no guarantee that the wine produced will be up to our satisfaction. Adding process of yeast determines the wine to taste better. It will be a gamble if you only rely on wild yeast.

The manual calculation of yeast is not an easy procedure. You cannot just buy the yeast and add it to the grapes. Many persons who make wine at their residence they choose the yeast which is used for making bread, because this yeast will show you the way for fermentation and alcohol production.

The manual addition of yeast is not a simple process. You can’t buy just any yeast and add it to the grapes. Many individuals who make wine at home opt for the yeast that is used in making bread as this yeast will lead to fermentation and alcohol production. However, using yeast strains that have been made specifically for wine is preferable as it offers the following advantages:

  • You will be aware how the yeast will perform. You should have the knowledge that what is the quantity of alcohol it produces, and duration of its storage and the taste it creates. After repeated testing and experimentation yeast is manufactured for this purpose.
  • If you want your wine to be more alcoholic, then you can choose for the strains which are resistant to alcohol. A higher resistance will enable the yeast to survive for a long period of time because yeast dies during the wine making process. This will give you a wine with highly alcohol content.
