Wines are considered the ultimate in luxury drinks. People with good taste prefer to drink fine wine with or after the
ir meals. Popular among the high class initially today wine drinking has become common with almost all classes of people. Wines are also considered a good investment opportunity primarily because as they become older the better they taste and the value they will fetch. It is not uncommon for wine aficionados to purchase bottles for wine and put them away waiting for them to mature. When the wine has aged a bit and is considered mature they sell the bottle at almost double the price and make a more than decent profit.
But all the research of grape types, the fermentation process, the different kinds of red, white and sparkling wines will be a mere waste if you do not consider adequate storage facility for your wines. Proper storage is very essential for the wines to mature and taste better than when they were purchased. The ideal storage temperature for wines is considered between 10 to 13 degrees Celsius. A wine stored at a temperature lower than this can lead to slower development of the wine while a temperature over this will lead to the wine maturing sooner than it’s time.
It is possible to successfully store wines at a temperature slightly higher than this ideal but it should be seen that the storage temperature is not subject to too many and too drastic fluctuations. Temperature fluctuations of wine storages can cause the wine to spoil and change in taste completely. Storing wine in outside places like a garage or outhouse is a definite no-no as these places are subject to temperature fluctuations due to the outside weather. At the same time storing wine in an attic or cellar is also not advisable as these places are faced with extreme temperatures in winter as well as in summer.
It is tempting to store wine bottles in the kitchen on a wine rack but this idea should also be thought into clearly as the bottles can be subjected to temperature changes due to the cooking done nearby. Then what is the ideal place and conditions to store your expensive bottles of vintage wine. If you have a basement in the house then you are lucky. A basement is considered an ideal place to store wine as it the place under the stairs if it isn’t already full of your children’s clothes and shoes.
However if you are not lucky enough to have a basement at home or access to stairs is rather unpractical for you then the best option is to go in for a wine cabinet or wine cooler. These are sold by almost all leading dealers of kitchen appliances and accessories. They are ideal because they control temperature for the wines to be stored in them. Wine coolers are available in all budgets and coolers which are a little high end in cost many also come with electronic enhanced options of controlling humidity as well.
